Year 1 Spotlight

Excited for the New Term

It was great to welcome back the Year 1s this week from the holidays! It was lovely to see them so excited to see their friends and share their experiences.

In the Classroom

Writing

Students returned for the start of term three focussing on identifying verbs and how they can be used in their everyday writing. They reflected on their school holidays by writing a holiday recount and incorporating their most exciting things they did, as well as verbs.

Maths

This first week in Maths, the Year 1 students have been learning about doubles and near doubles as strategies to assist them to solve addition problems. 

For example:

• 5+5=10 is the same as double 5.
• 6+5 = 11 is the same as double 6 and take one away.

Year 1 Concert – Christmas in July (in August)!

Students are also looking forward to their concert on Thursday 7th August. They are enthusiastically practising their lines and their concert item ready for Christmas July (in August)!

Swimming Program

With one lesson down and six more to go, the students are happily travelling to and from the pool and enjoying the time in the water. We are looking forward to seeing their aquatic progress over the coming weeks.
