COSTUME IDEAS AND INSPIRATION

UPCOMING LEARNING:

LITTLE LEARNERS

Over the past week, we explored our new Stage 7.4 sounds including 'a_e' as in chase to the gate and 'a' as in acorns in April. In the next fortnight of learning we are looking at 'ce/ci/cy' as in space city racing and 'ge/gi/gy' as in a ginger cat allergy. Then moving into identifying the 'i_e' sound as in five strikes and 'i' as in find a giant.

WRITING:

Beginning a new unit of learning we are introducing the text Jetty Jumping by Andrea Rowe. In our discussions of the text students will discuss the story by sharing feelings, thoughts and by making personal connections with our own experiences. Strengthen their comprehension and key themes explored in Jetty Jumping by activating background knowledge and expanding vocabularies.

NUMERACY:

In the next fortnight of learning students will investigate division in the form of sharing and grouping. This will involve exploration through concrete resources and physically sharing them into groups. Through hands of learning students will create combinations of sharing to consolidate that each group needs to have the same amount. In their discussions students will utilise the language of division, for example “There are ___ counters shared equally into ___ groups. There are ____ in each group.”

INQUIRY:

Students will continue their inquiry into the features and jobs of minibeasts, curating their own inquiry questions to discover the diverse and intricate lives of different species. Students also explored the symmetry of butterfly wings, with opportunities to create their own symmetrical patterns in a variety of ways.

Wellbeing:

Over the next fortnight of learning students will be looking at examples of respect at school and in their community. Students will share examples of what respect feels and looks like. They will relate these understandings to our previous lessons on character strengths and how to be a good friend.

Bullying No Way! – National Week of Action

This week the Year 1’s participated in the National Week of Action: Bullying No Way! They completed an Okay or Not Okay? sorting and matching collaborative task with the aim to build a shared understanding of what bullying is – and what it isn’t – so that we all start with the same knowledge and language. This is the first step in our year-long Bullying Prevention and Education program, which will include further learning sessions, an incursion, and special awareness days such as Daisy Day. It was a great opportunity for our students to learn, share, and take positive action towards creating a safe and respectful school community.
