Literacy
This week, we’ve had a fantastic time exploring CVCC, CCVC and CCVCC words such as nest, pink, sand, clam, swim, plant, blank and grab. Students have been actively engaged in reading and writing activities that support their phonics development and word-building skills. In Literacy, the students have thoroughly enjoyed our new mentor text, Giraffes Can’t Dance. They have participated in a range of rich comprehension tasks, deepening their understanding of the narrative, characters, and themes.

Maths
In Mathematics, our Prep students are further developing their understanding of addition. They have been representing addition stories using manipulatives and tens frames. Additionally, they have been introduced to the concept of subtraction and have practiced creating and solving subtraction stories with hands-on materials.
Furthermore, students are learning to represent and interpret data with two outcomes. They have been sorting data into two groups, calculating the total in each group, and explaining which group has more by counting and comparing quantities.
Next, students will continue to build their understanding of subtraction through a variety of hands-on activities and learning experiences.
Inquiry
As part of our ‘Weather and Seasons’ unit, the Preps explored how trees transform throughout the year. Each class beautifully decorated trees, thoughtfully capturing the unique features of every season. It was wonderful to see their creativity bloom alongside their understanding of nature’s changes!
Wellbeing
During our Wellbeing lessons, students have been exploring personal and cultural strengths and how these qualities contribute positively to both family and school life. They have also identified ways in which their strengths can support others and foster meaningful friendships.
Bullying No Way! – National Week of Action This week the Year Prep’s participated in the National Week of Action: Bullying No Way! They discussed actions that are 'ok and not ok' with the aim to build a shared understanding of what bullying is – and what it isn’t – so that we all start with the same knowledge and language. This is the first step in our year-long Bullying Prevention and Education program, which will include further learning sessions, an incursion, and special awareness days such as Daisy Day. It was a great opportunity for our students to learn, share, and take positive action towards creating a safe and respectful school community.
Reminders
Satchels
Each child has a take-home reading book in their satchel, which should be practiced daily along with their Boomerang book. Kindly ensure that the satchel, reading book, and Boomerang book are returned to school each day. Additionally, each child has their login details in their Boomerang book, granting them access to Little Learners Decodable Readers online.
Library
Library Times:
Prep C Monday
Prep A & B Tuesday
Prep D & E Thursday
Toileting Before School
Please remind your child to use the toilet before school so that their learning is not interrupted in the morning session.
Spare Clothes
With the wet weather upon us, please ensure your child has a change of clothes, including socks, in their bag. Please label all items with your child’s name.
Swimming
The Preps had an amazing time splashing around at the pool and diving into all the fun activities! They impressed everyone by confidently getting themselves ready, drying off, and dressing independently. The bus rides to and from the pool were filled with smiles and great behaviour. Fantastic job, Preps!
Science Experiment ‘Rain In A Jar’
The Preps dove into an exciting science experiment where they discovered how rain forms in clouds, almost like magic! Using shaving cream to create fluffy “clouds,” we dropped blue dye on top and watched as colourful raindrops began to fall through. It got a bit messy (the teachers ended up with some very blue fingers!), but every splash was totally worth it!

100 Days of School
The children had a magnificent day celebrating their achievement of 100 days at school. They looked fabulous as ‘old’ people and participated in a variety of alphabet activities such as, a parade, crown decorating, a dice game, a number hunt and completing 100 exercises! Congratulations to all the Preps for being superstars at school for 100 days!
Bronze and Silver Awards
Congratulations to the students who have achieved their Bronze and Silver awards:
