HSIE Celebrates Public Education Week by inviting Camden Public and Cawdor Public students to visit our ‘Ancient Mediterranean Museum’ 7G students showcased some of the artefacts from Year 7’s last history assessment task. Year 3 and 4 were able to examine artefacts from Ancient Egypt, Rome and Greece and asked lots of questions about what they were made from and what they were used for in history. We thoroughly enjoyed building our connections to our feeder primary schools whilst celebrating public education!
Last term students got to learn how statistical data is used for research experiments. To help their understanding, we used M&M's! Students were able to hypothesise the number of each colour in the tube and then test their theories in practice. Students were able to identify the mean, mode, median, and P-value of their data. A great example of practical learning for our future psychologists.
Year 9 students have transitioned over to Geography for the next semester. We have started with their first topic: 'Sustainable Biomes'. Students in 9L1 have been learning about the world's biomes and their characteristics. In groups, they have been working together to create a biome feature poster to be displayed in the classroom. Keep an eye on our socials for the finished product!
Year 11 and Year 12 students visited Canberra on Tuesday 29th July to tour the High Court of Australia, tour Parliament House and observe question time. It was a fantastic opportunity to:
learn more about the Tasmanian Dam case (a significant case examined in the course in relation to the separation of powers and international law)
witness speeches in the senate in relation to proposed changes to paid parental leave entitlements
observe politics in full swing with Prime Minister Albanese and his ministers responding to the Opposition's questions regarding Medicare and pending law reform regarding HECS debt reduction.
Here is a brief video overview of the experience:
