Aboriginal Education

The Wiritjiribin Word

NAIDOC Week is a special time across Australia to recognise and celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples – the oldest continuing cultures on earth. It’s an opportunity for all Australians to come together in the spirit of respect and reconciliation, and to reflect on the significant contributions First Nations peoples make to our country and communities. We hope our families were able to take part in local events during the official NAIDOC Week (held during the July school holidays, from July 6 to July 13), and continue to support and learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices throughout the year.

Here at Camden High School, we marked the occasion in Week 1 of Term 3 with a big celebration for NAIDOC. There was something happening every day – from art workshops to cultural activities – and it was fantastic to see so many students getting involved.

A huge thank you to all our amazing students for embracing this year’s theme: Strength, Vision, Legacy. Your enthusiasm, respect and energy made it a truly memorable week!

We also visited Camden South Public School during Week 10 of last term to support their NAIDOC celebrations. Our students ran a series of hands-on workshops for Kindergarten through to Year 2, beautifully tying this year’s theme to the Dreaming story How the Birds Got Their Colours. The leadership and enthusiasm our students showed for sharing culture was truly impressive, and each activity was loved by our little friends.
