Learning and Support

Transition

At the end of term 2, we welcomed Year 5 and 6 students from Camden Public School to experience high school for the day. The primary school students followed a timetable, explored the school facilities and completed their lessons in our classrooms. It was a great opportunity to experience the high school setting, and we look forward to getting to know the Year 6 students further, as they prepare for Year 7 2026.

Examination Supports

Year 10 formal examinations and Year 11 Preliminary Examinations will be held at the end of the term. Students who have a diagnosed disability or medical condition, such as anxiety, colour blindness, diabetes, cronhs disease etc, may be able to access provisions to assist with completing their exams. If students are unsure if they can access provisions, they are encouraged to speak to a member of the Learning Support team (located in the library).

Exams can be stressful for many students (and the families supporting them!) Please find attached some helpful hints for supporting students undertaking exams.

Literacy Activities

“The Book Was Better” was the theme of the term 2 Book Battle and students who participated celebrated with a morning tea. We discussed the power of books to convey meaning and provide insight to characters which can’t always be captured on the screen.

Education Week and Book Week

Education Week has seen students from across the school come together to plan, collaborate and create a display for each faculty related to Book Week. These masterpieces will be displayed around the school as part of Book Week celebrations (16th-23rd August). Watch this space to see what our students have created!

Secondary Studies is also running a ‘Book Cover Redesign’ competition open to all students as part of Book Week. Students are invited to redesign their favourite book cover from a range of different genres. We have extended the invitation to our feeder primary schools to enter the competition as well.

Testing

NAPLAN results have been distributed for students in Years 7 & 9. Our school has seen an improvement in overall results from 2024. Certificates have been awarded to students who “exceeded” across Reading, Writing, Grammar and Punctuation, Spelling and Numeracy. Congratulations to all students who applied themselves diligently and tried their best.

Currently, students in Years 7-9 are undertaking the check-in assessment in Reading and Numeracy. This is an opportunity for us as a school to support the identification of students’ performance in literacy and numeracy and inform next steps in teaching and learning.

Whilst NAPLAN and check-in results do not contribute to student school reports, they both provide the us with invaluable data so that we can best meet student need and support students to reach their potential.

Library News

The selection in the library is growing, with the recent arrival of a new shipment of books. These are on the shelves and ready to be explored. The library is always open to requests, so if there are any specific books students would like to see on the shelves, they are encouraged to let the library staff know.
