School-Based Apprenticeship & Traineeship (SBAT)

Year 10 students are encouraged to consider a School Based Traineeship or Apprenticeship as part of their HSC in 2026-27.

An SBAT is a big commitment and suits a well organised student who wants to stay to Year 12 but is also ready to join the work force. Students complete paid work and must do around 8 hours a week, amounting to 700 across the 2 years. Students course work counts as a 2unit subject for their HSC plus gives them a national recognised qualification such a Certificate III. Students are job ready at the end of Year 12. Students on the Apprentice program move directly to 2nd year once they finish school.

Two Year 11 students are currently half way through the program. Hayley is completing Real Estate Practice as one of her HSC subjects. She works every Thursday at KLM Group in the Oakes. She will be eligible to register for her NSW Agents licence before she has finished school. Claire works at Mt Annan Leisure Centre outside of school hours as a swim teacher, lifeguard and receptionist. She is completing Sport, Aquatics and Leisure as one of her HSC subjects and she will gain a Certificate III qualification.

Applications are currently open for Mt Annan and Oran Park School Based Trainees starting Term 4 this year. Apply directly at https://leisureemployment.com.au/apply-now/ and see Ms Abelitis for details.

PEPEs Ducks at Cobbitty are keen to recruit a SBAT in the Primary Industries field. Interested students are encouraged to approach local businesses who may consider the SBAT program. In particular it really suits Child Care, Real Estate, Automotive, Hairdressing, Retail and more. Work experience is a perfect opportunity to trial a potential SBAT program. Year 10 students are encouraged to see Ms Abelitis if they are considering the SBAT program.
