Wollondilly Performing Arts Festival

On Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st July, our amazing CAPA students displayed their impressive talents at the Wollondilly Performing Arts Festival.

The audience were dazzled by our Dance Troupe, Year 11 Rock Band and Vocal Group.

Our students represented Camden High School with pride, and it was fantastic to see them show off their skills.

Japanese

Year 7 students are just beginning their new topic this term, where they are learning to describe monsters in Japanese. They will then complete an assessment later this term where their descriptions will help them develop a brand new monster of their own through the use of AI image generation.

Year 9 students have just begun their travel topic this term which will see them develop a pretend trip to Japan and learn a lot of the travel type language they would need to traverse the country. It will be great to see what they come up with across their individual interests in their trips.

Visual Arts

This term, 8VA1 and 8VA2 have been working on a cross-curricular Visual Arts unit that links closely with their Science studies. In this project, students have been exploring how invisible forces - such as gravity, motion, and tension - can be transformed into powerful sculptural artworks. Inspired by the work of Alexander Calder, Barbara Hepworth, and Jean Tinguely, students have investigated how these artists use shape, structure, and materials to express energy, balance, and movement. Using wire, cardboard, and found objects, students have experimented with form and space to create sculptures that look like they’re in motion - even when still.

The unit connects with key scientific concepts students are learning in class, such as forces, motion, and structural design. Through their artmaking, students are developing their understanding of how these forces interact in the real world, while also learning how visual artists communicate ideas through sculpture. Each student is now working on a final artwork inspired by one of the three artists studied in class. Their final task is to design and build an original sculpture that captures a “force in action,” showcasing both their creativity and their understanding of the connections between art and science.
