Last term, as part of their English course requirements, our Year 12 students were asked to find a job advertisement that interested them, then complete a résumé and cover letter, and address the selection criteria for their chosen job.

On Monday, this job application process was taken a step further. Sixteen volunteer interviewers from the Harvey Rotary Club and local industry generously donated their time to visit the College, review the students’ applications, and interview them for these positions.

A special thank you goes to Robyn Coleman, who put considerable time to seeking out volunteers and making the necessary arrangements. Ms Coleman also made a significant effort to match students’ interests as closely as possible with volunteers from related fields, making the experience even more valuable.

I also need to acknowledge the important contribution of our English staff including Ms Sgambelluri, Dr Henderson and Ms Williams  in preparing the students for their interviews. It is a credit to both Ms Coleman and Ms Sgambelluri, who took on the logistics of organising this event at the College and ensuring the day ran smoothly.

Our students are fortunate to be supported by school staff and members of the broader community who are prepared to go above and beyond to ensure they have such rich and relevant learning opportunities. The feedback from students was very positive, and I am sure they have gained valuable skills that will assist them in their future job interviews.
