RoboCup Competition

Robotics Teams Shine at RoboCup Junior Melbourne Regional Competition – A Historic First Event for Our Girls' Team!

Our school is proud to celebrate an exciting milestone in STEM achievement after a solid performance by our robotics teams at the recent Melbourne Regional Robotics Competition. Students from Year 7 to Year 10 came together to represent our school, demonstrating innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving under pressure.

This year’s competition was especially memorable – for the first time in our school’s history, we fielded a girls robotics team! The team, made up of Year 7 students, Lila Goh and Nanami Ishikawa, was impressive with their coding skills, and confidence throughout the event.

In total, eight teams from our school entered the competition in four different event divisions, tackling complex tasks such as autonomous movement, obstacle navigation, and precision handling. Each team put in weeks of preparation, testing designs and refining code to rise to the challenge.

Highlights from the day included:

  • Second and third placings in soccer
  • Second and third placings in Mighty Maisy Rescue Maze
  • Gabe Merl volunteered to help another school team

The enthusiasm and determination of our students show that the future of robotics at our school is bright. Special thanks go to Qi Sun, the eLearning Leader, for her hard work in organising the teams, David Ebert, the robotics mentor, and parents who supported the teams at the event. We are now looking forward to the state competition in September and the national competition in Canberra in October.

As we continue to grow our robotics program, we look forward to seeing even more students – especially girls – get involved in STEM and robotics in the coming years.

Well done to all our competitors – you’ve made us proud!
