Year 10 Civics Excursion - Old Melbourne Gaol
Our class went on an amazing excursion to the Old Melbourne Gaol, where we learned about historic criminals and old punishments.
We also visited the old Magistrates’ Court where we got to enact a sentencing of culpable driving by participating in a role play.
After lunch we went on a walking tour seeing monuments of civic importance such as Parliament and the Old Treasury Building.
It was a great experience to see where important decisions were made, explore real courtrooms and old jail cells.
The whole day was interesting, fun, and gave us a better understanding of Victoria’s legal and political history as well as seeing what we learnt in class in real life scenarios.

Port Of Melbourne Tour
On Friday, 5 July 2025, our Unit 3 & 4 Economics students visited the Port of Melbourne. This excursion complements the VCE Economics Unit 3, Area of Study 3, where students investigate Australia’s trade in the global economy.
Ms Angela Andrews (Economics specialist teacher) and Mr Chris Kotsonis (Careers and Pathways Coordinator) accompanied the students to the Port of Melbourne Education Centre, situated on the Yarra River opposite the Swanson Dock international container terminals.
Students participated in a 45-minute interactive workshop at the docks, learning about the vital role the Port of Melbourne plays in global trade, and how exchange rates, the terms of trade, and international competitiveness influence Australia’s macroeconomic objectives and living standards.
This was followed by a 45-minute bus tour around the port precinct, observing the real-time movement of goods, and the bustling activity at one of Australia’s largest container and cargo ports.
The excursion aligns with the school’s commitment to providing experiential learning opportunities that enhance students’ understanding of economics, bringing theoretical concepts to life through real-world applications.
