Grade 4

In Mathematics, the Grade 4 students have been learning about length and area. They explored different units of measurement in the metric system, such as millimetres, centimetres, metres, and kilometres, and developed an understanding of the relative size and appropriate use of each. Students measured a variety of classroom objects to apply their knowledge in real-life contexts. They also learned how to find the perimeter and area of simple shapes through hands-on activities and practical exploration.
Reading Writing and Camp
Last week, we finished reading Uncle Exbox, and the class is now diving into a new novel, The Arrival, which is already sparking great discussions with its powerful illustrations and themes of migration.
We’ve also just returned from an unforgettable camp at Woorabinda! Some of the highlights included cooking our own delicious lunches (yes, we survived!), zooming through the trees on the zip line, taking on the high ropes course like pros, and scaling the rock wall with determination and a few dramatic victory poses. It’s been an exciting time of new adventures—both in books and in the bush!
Integrated
This term, we have been learning about the Indigenous symbols used by First Australians to tell stories, share knowledge, and connect with Country. We explored the meaning behind common symbols like waterholes, meeting places, animal tracks, and people, and how these are used in traditional artworks and story maps. Students enjoyed interpreting Dreaming stories through these symbols and even created their own symbolic artworks to represent personal journeys or important places. It’s been a meaningful way to appreciate the depth and richness of Aboriginal culture and storytelling.
