Grade 2

Dear Families,
What a busy and exciting couple of weeks it has been in Year 2!
Athletics Day Fun
Although our Athletics Day was interrupted by the weather, we made the most of it and still had a wonderful time! The students showed fantastic sportsmanship, resilience, and enthusiasm throughout the events that did go ahead. It was heartwarming to see so many smiles, high-fives, and team spirit. We’re looking forward to completing the rest of the events soon!
Reconciliation Week – T-Shirt Activity
This week, we participated in a meaningful and creative activity to acknowledge Reconciliation Week. Students decorated t-shirts with symbols and messages that represent unity, respect, and their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Their thoughtful designs and reflections made us incredibly proud.
Literacy Learning
In Literacy, we’ve been exploring the vowel digraphs ‘ou’ and ‘ow’ (as in shout and cow), as well as different ways to spell the ‘k’ sound. Students have enjoyed discovering how these sounds appear in many words and have been using them in their reading and writing. It’s been wonderful to see their growing confidence with spelling strategies and phonics.
Maths Focus
Our focus in Maths has been on addition and subtraction using skip counting on number lines. The children are becoming more fluent with mental strategies and are learning how number lines can help them solve problems efficiently. Keep practising counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s at home—it really helps!
Information Report Writing
We are so proud of the effort and improvement our students have shown in writing information reports. They’ve been learning how to plan and structure their ideas clearly. Their growing ability to write facts, use headings, and include interesting details has been amazing to see. A big well done to all our young writers!
Thank you for your continued support at home.
Warm regards,
The Year 2 Team
