Grade 1 & 2
Term 2 - Week 6
Welcome back to our Years 1 and 2 learning space. We are in the middle of Term 2 and so much has already happened.
As mentioned before, our RE topic is ‘LOVE’. It is a wonderful topic to teach. We have been studying a parable, a story that Jesus told to help us understand how important ‘love’ is.
The Parable of the Mustard Seed- ‘He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”
If we grow the smallest seed of love it will grow and grow into the biggest tree, God’s kingdom is where everyone will feel the effects of it, everyone is welcome, just like the birds with their nests. Something small can lead to something very big and important. God loves us and we see God’s love all around us, everywhere. God is everywhere.
In Week 4 we had two guest speakers, Sarah and Jill, come from Bunnings to our learning area to teach us about worm farms and set one up for each of the 4 classes. In the worm farms went 1000 worms each. This was very exciting and now we need to look after them and feed them our food scraps. Thank you Mr Smith for setting this up for us.
In our science Inquiry unit we have been investigating and discovering all about forces (push and pull), balancing, floating and sinking and magnets. This topic has flowed on through to our Discovery Centres, with the children investigating even further.
This week has been Catholic Education Week. Pope Francis declared this a Jubilee Year of Hope, we are pilgrims of Hope and we certainly journey together and celebrate our school, our education and everyone of us. We are all a part of something very special, we are special!
