Message from the Principal
Mrs Bronwyn Underwood
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have officially passed the half way mark of Term 2 and entered the season of Winter. Teaching staff members have commenced Semester One Report writing. Reports will be issued the last day of Term 2, Friday July 4. Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held on Tuesday July 22, commencing at 11.45 a.m. Monday July 21 and Tuesday July 22 are designated Pupil Free days for St Michael's and Parent/Teacher interviews will be part of day 2, July 22. Interview times can be booked via COMPASS from the commencement of Week 9 this term, Monday June 23. A reminder will be sent closer to the date.
Last Saturday evening, our P&F Association hosted a fabulous night of fine food, fun and friendship. It was wonderful to see and hear so much laughter and fun being had by all. A very special thankyou to our P&F Committee - Jessica Callcut, Emma Coombes, Katie Agnew and Ashlee Long for organising such a wonderful event. I look forward to working with the ladies to organise future social activities and fun get togethers. On behalf of the school, I thank the ladies for their initiative and energy.
Commencing next week, we are introducing our Shine Bright Framework, into St Michael’s with the express outcome of recognising and rewarding exemplary behaviour.
This is an Award Based Program, based on three tiers of Awards and four tiers of rewards.
Weekly: children who are spotted doing the right thing both in and out of the classroom without being prompted (Safe, Respectful, Responsible, Successful) will be given a St Michael’s token. This token can then be added to the classroom collection container. Each child must put their initials or name on the back of the token. It is the responsibility of each child to place their token in the container. Tokens cannot be removed from the container once they are in there. Containers will be opened once per week, by Mrs Underwood. All staff members can issue tokens.
On Thursday after recess, containers will be collected, tokens tallied and the highest token recipient in each class will receive a virtual $2.00 to spend at the canteen at a time that suits them. A spreadsheet will be used to keep the tally for each child.
Level Three Award: Spark Award
Once a child has reached 20 tokens within the term, they will be awarded the Spark Award and will enjoy a hot chip lunch plus a drink. Reward day will be Friday.
Level Two Award: Glow Award
Children can continue to accumulate tokens within the term and when 35 tokens are achieved, they will be awarded the Glow Award and will enjoy a VIP Chrome session during the middle session on a Friday. VIP Chrome sessions include party food and a drink.
Level One Award: Diamond Award
Children can continue to accumulate tokens within the term and when 50 tokens are achieved, they will be awarded the Diamond Award, a Positive Postcard will be sent home and they will enjoy the designated end of term off site activity. Children at Diamond Level will be given the opportunity to put forward activity ideas for consideration each term. Reward day will be during the last week of each term.
If you have questions regarding the above framework, please ask. All children will start at zero tokens at the commencement of each term, with the exception of this term, as we are starting Monday June 9. There will be no expense to parents and carers.
A reminder that supervision by staff commences at 8.25 a.m. each morning. Children who arrive before this time are expected to be sitting in the COLA area waiting for staff to dismiss them to morning play.
I hope everyone enjoys a fabulous long weekend.
Take care,
Bronwyn
