Racing Ahead - Trug Athletes

A big week of Athletics Days begins with Year 3 and 4
Our Year 3 and 4 students enjoyed a fantastic Athletics Day on a lovely, sunny winter’s day at the VU Wyndham Sports Complex. The sunshine set the perfect scene for a day full of energy, teamwork, and house pride.
Students proudly represented Thurston, Namatjira, Freeman, and Unaipon, competing in a range of events including the 100m and 200m races, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus, and relays.
It was wonderful to see students giving each event their best effort, stepping out of their comfort zones, and cheering on their friends.
A particular highlight of the day was the tug of war, with plenty of laughter as the teachers went head-to-head with the students. We won’t mention who won but let’s just say, the competition was fierce and the cheering even louder!
House points were awarded not only for athletic achievements, but also for participation and demonstrating positive sporting behaviour. Whether it was helping a classmate, encouraging others, or giving something new a try, our students showed the Truganina College Values throughout the day. A big thank you to all staff and helpers who supported the event, and congratulations to all students for making the day such a positive and memorable experience.
We’re so proud of the way our Year 3 and 4 students represented their houses and we can’t wait for the next event!

From the Track to the Trail - Bike Ed Begins
Year 9 Outdoor Education: First Ever Bike Ed Ride to Altona Pier!
On a cold and rainy morning, our Year 9 Outdoor Education students set off on an unforgettable adventure – our first ever Bike Education ride! Starting from Truganina P-9 College and journeying all the way to Altona Pier and back, 20 students completed an impressive 40-kilometre round trip.
The focus of the day was on bike safety, road awareness, and group riding etiquette. Students learned how to ride safely on roads, signal to traffic, support each other in a large group, and navigate the changing terrain. Hills were climbed, muscles were tested, and strong friendships were strengthened along the way.
More than just a physical challenge, this excursion helped students build resilience, teamwork, and a sense of achievement. Whether pushing through sore legs or cheering each other on, our students demonstrated the spirit of Outdoor Ed.
A huge thank you to John Whitehouse for building and initiating this ride. His leadership and dedication brought our first Bike Ed journey to life – and what a success it was!
Here’s what our students had to say:
“The bike ride was fun but my legs were hurting a lot! In the morning, we prepared our bikes and rode for 5 hours, going up and down hills. When we reached the pier, we went to the shops for a bit. Overall, I’d do it again because it was really fun and I had a great time.” – Sadia
“Overall, the bike ride was an opportunity for us to show resilience and perseverance. Despite the muscle cramps and aches, it was a good experience that I enjoyed – and I believe everyone else did too.” – Pathe
Well done, Year 9 – your determination and positive attitude made this a day to remember! We can’t wait for the next ride.
