The Stand-Up Project

On Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th June, Truganina College welcomed Dr Zach Greig and Liam O'Connell for an engaging and thought-provoking Stand-Up Project Information Session for staff and parents. The sessions focused on building a shared understanding of the impact of bullying and how our community can work together to foster a culture of respect, responsibility, and inclusion.
Dr Zach and Liam explored the bystander effect, a powerful psychological phenomenon where individuals are less likely to help when others are present. They challenged attendees to shift from being passive bystanders to active up-standers – people who take safe and supportive action when they witness harmful behaviour.
A key strategy discussed was the 4 D’s approach on how to be an upstander:
The sessions provided practical tools and insights that align with the College Values and wellbeing goals, reinforcing that everyone in our community has a role in creating a safe and inclusive environment.
Our Year 9 SUP Leaders are looking forward to delivering their student-to-student sessions in Term 3.
Thank you to all staff and families who attended and supported this important initiative. Together, we stand stronger.
