1/2 Learning News

Hello Families,
Winter is here and so is some cold weather. It's great to see the children with their coats and jumpers on, and what a bonus to have our new ducted heating keeping our classrooms toasty. After being on camp last week its been wonderful to be back in the classroom with the children with our regular routine, however, by all reports they showed great flexibility and resilience last week having different teachers on Thursday & Friday.
Literacy
This week in Literacy we have been learning about adjectives and how they describe nouns. We have chosen a noun from in the classroom, such as a table then been challenged to come up with at least 2 adjectives to describe it such as 'round' and 'wooden'. We then chose an animal or object to write about using our most interesting adjectives. We have also been focussing on spelling some tricky words related to out family such as cousin, brother, sister, father and mother.
Maths
After exploring Addition earlier in the year, we are now learning about Subtraction. We have practiced how to correctly write a a subtraction equation, used counters or animals to model subtraction problems and also spoken about mental strategies we might use, and some of the challenges of using these strategies when dealing with higher amounts. We have started subtracting 2 digit numbers, writing our equations vertically ro help us work them out easily.
