1/2 Learning News

Hello Families,

Winter is here and so is some cold weather. It's great to see the children with their coats and jumpers on, and what a bonus to have our new ducted heating keeping our classrooms toasty. After being on camp last week its been wonderful to be back in the classroom with the children with our regular routine, however, by all reports they showed great flexibility and resilience last week having different teachers on Thursday & Friday.

Literacy

This week in Literacy we have been learning about adjectives and how they describe nouns. We have chosen a noun from in the classroom, such as a table then been challenged to come up with at least 2 adjectives to describe it such as 'round' and 'wooden'. We then chose an animal or object to write about using our most interesting adjectives. We have also been focussing on spelling some tricky words related to out family such as cousin, brother, sister, father and mother.

Maths

After exploring Addition earlier in the year, we are now learning about Subtraction. We have practiced how to correctly write a a subtraction equation, used counters or animals to model subtraction problems and also spoken about mental strategies we might use, and some of the challenges of using these strategies when dealing with higher amounts. We have started subtracting 2 digit numbers, writing our equations vertically ro help us work them out easily.

Alpha Show by Grace, Ryan & Huda

We went to the King Arthur Alpha Show at St Luke's in Shepparton. Some of the characters were Arthur, Sam, the Princess, Lance and Steve. We learnt about kindness and believing in ourselves at the show. It was loud and fun.

My favourite part was the fish, its name was chip – Grace

My favourite part was the dragon because he talked about lots of cool things I like – Ryan

I liked the start because one of the St. Luke’s kids got to put the sword in the stone - Huda

SAM Visit by Aahn, Finley, Charlie, Eddie & Adam

On Thursday 27th May we went to SAM (Shepparton Art Museum). We got to look around the gallery and saw a floating ladder that disappeared into a mirror, a waterfall made of paper, a statue of an old lady holding a baby and lots more.

My favourite part was making some lily pads and some frogs. My favourite picture was the 2 different shades of pink picture - Aahn

My favourite part of the museum was when I made the frogs on the lily pads. My favourite picture was the Aboriginal painting and the horse painting - Charlie.

My favourite part of the museum was when I made a reflection picture. One of my favourite pictures was a 3D man on a farm with a horse – Finley

My favourite thing was doing the lily pad and the frog - Eddie.

My favourite part was the sculpture that we could go under and it felt like paper. I like the mini version of the SAM building - Adam
