Foundation News

Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe how quickly the term is flying by! It has been a joy to see our Foundation students growing into confident and enthusiastic learners. We were also thrilled to welcome Lexi to our group this week. She has been a wonderful addition to our class and I am proud of how inclusive, polite and welcoming all our students have been.

Shepparton Excursion

We recently enjoyed a fantastic day in Shepparton, visiting the Alpha Show at St. Luke’s and SAM (Shepparton Art Museum). After watching the performance, the students had the opportunity to meet the actors, ask questions and take a photo with them.

We then shared a lovely lunch in the sunshine before heading into SAM.

In the children’s gallery, the Foundation students listened to a story and took part in the “Once Upon a Lily pad” workshop, where they created their very own frog on a lily pad. One of the highlights was seeing the students’ awe as they explored the museum, particularly when discovering the sculpture of the Woman and Child

Special Book Donation

We extend our thanks to Jean, Deb’s mother, who kindly donated a collection of books for our Foundation students. Each child has selected a book to take home and keep. If you've spotted a new book in your child's reader bag recently, it's theirs to add to their home library.

Literacy Learning

Our phonics journey continues with great enthusiasm. So far, students have explicitly learnt the sounds: m, s, t, a, p, i, f, r, o, c, d, h, e, and n. They’ve begun blending these sounds to form words and have now started writing simple sentences using their growing knowledge.

 Rock Writing Activity

We received a beautifully painted rock from GRPSA Childcare. Before learning its origin, students made imaginative guesses ranging from fairies to outer space! They then wrote a sentence and drew pictures about the rock. It now proudly sits at the front of our school.

Mathematics

In Maths, students have been exploring numbers from 1 to 20, using number lines, ten frames and other tools to develop flexible thinking and number sense.

We’ve also begun learning about parts and wholes breaking numbers into components and reassembling them to understand their structure.

This week we focused on shape. Students have explored 2D shapes such as rhombuses, crescents, diamonds, squares, rectangles, circles and triangles. A classroom favourite was creating their own 2D shape families and going on a shape hunt around the room.

 Bailey’s Game

A thank you to Bailey, who introduced a fun game to the class. The students had a great time learning and playing it together.

Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing long weekend
