Year 7 Camp

An Unforgettable Adventure at Camp Rumbug

This week, our enthusiastic Warreeny and Yawa Year 7 students swapped their classrooms for the stunning outdoors, heading off on an exciting adventure to Camp Rumbug. Located in the majestic hills of South Gippsland, Camp Rumbug is set on 200 acres of rainforest and has amazing views of Wilsons Promontory National Park – a great place for learning, exploring and having fun.

Over the course of the camp, students were immersed in a range of challenging and enjoyable outdoor activities designed to stretch their minds, build their resilience and strengthen their friendships. Among the highlights were raft building, Jacob's ladder, canoeing and the Mud Run!

The Mud Run is a hilly obstacle course featuring various challenges that the students needed to navigate. Our students worked together to climb, crawl and splash their way through the mud, building teamwork, problem-solving and resilience along the way. It was a great way for everyone to step outside their comfort zone, support one another and enjoy getting messy in the outdoors!

Raft building and canoeing were two standout activities that tested both their teamwork and tenacity.

In raft building, students were given the materials and guidance to design and construct a floating raft. The task pushed students to collaborate, problem-solve under pressure and put their ideas into action.

Meanwhile, canoeing gave students a chance to take to the water and learn the art of paddling while working in sync with a partner. As they navigated the lake together, students built trust, sharpened their communication skills and discovered the importance of coordination and patience.

The students also took on Jacob’s Ladder, a teamwork challenge where groups of three climbed a suspended ladder with growing gaps between the logs. They had to support each other by pushing, pulling and standing on shoulders - working together to reach the top while building communication, leadership and trust.

Camp Rumbug wasn’t just about activities - it was about growing as a person. Away from their screens and daily routines, students gained confidence, independence and teamwork skills. They made new friends, learned to support each other and took on new challenges.

The camp helped students build important skills like leadership, empathy and problem-solving. We are certain that they have come back with great memories and skills they will use for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who made the camp such a fun and meaningful experience. We can’t wait to see how the students use what they learned back at school!
