Reconciliation Week

Reflecting on National Reconciliation Week 2025
This past week, Pakenham Secondary College proudly recognised National Reconciliation Week 2025 (Monday 26th May to Friday 31st May), a time to reflect on the importance of respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community.
The theme of this year’s Reconciliation Week reminded us that reconciliation is more than a word – it requires action. Throughout the week, our school community came together to engage in meaningful learning and activities that deepened our understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories and perspectives.
Highlights of the week included a flag-raising ceremony to show our respect and commitment to reconciliation and a whole school announcement and presentation to all classes that shared information and messages to inspire awareness and reflection. Students enjoyed arts and crafts sessions in the Library on Tuesday and Wednesday, where they explored traditional and contemporary Indigenous art styles. In classrooms, brain breaks with an Indigenous focus gave students the opportunity to connect with culture in interactive and thoughtful ways.
As part of Reconciliation Week, our Indigenous students were also invited to attend Richmond Football Club’s Korin Gamadji Dreamtime Expo 2025. They watched the club’s training session and took part in workshops alongside AFL players. The day also featured inspiring guest speakers and a provided lunch. A special highlight – one of our students, Shayleigh, was lucky enough to win a signed jumper!
We thank all staff and students for their participation and engagement throughout the week. At Pakenham Secondary College, reconciliation is a shared journey and we remain committed to listening, learning and building a community based on respect and understanding.
