Student Representative Council (SRC) Activities this month

We’ve had two very important events on our calendar this past month – IDAHOBIT Day and Reconciliation Week.

IDAHOBIT Day stands for the International Day Against LGBTIQA+ Discrimination and Pakenham Secondary College stands firmly with the LGBTIQA+ community in raising awareness, supporting students and staff and promoting empathy and understanding within our school.

The SRC promoted IDAHOBIT in many ways:

  • We shared strong messages of support and important resources for our LGBTIQA+ community through our social media channels and the student bulletin all week.

  • Our Inclusion and Diversity Captain, Stacky, made a whole-school announcement to explain why this day is important and how we can all support and include each other.

  • At lunchtime, we enjoyed IDAHOBIT-themed arts and crafts in the library.

Celebrating IDAHOBIT Day every year helps show that our school is a safe, welcoming place where everyone belongs and can be themselves. It’s all about kindness, respect and inclusion for all.

This week was National Reconciliation Week - a time for all Australians to learn about the shared histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and to reflect on how each of us can contribute to reconciliation. To find out how we honoured this important week, please see the dedicated page in this newsletter.

The SRC is also planning several important events in June, including Pride Month and World Refugee Week. We look forward to sharing more about these in next month’s newsletter!

Community Connections Captains and Year 10 Connections Class Take Action for the Environment

Our Community Connections Captains, Gracie and Ruby, along with the Year 10 Connections class, are leading the way in helping Pakenham Secondary College become more environmentally friendly. As part of their ongoing efforts, they have launched a project focused on the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

One of their first initiatives involves responsibly managing waste in staff rooms across the College. Each staff room will soon have dedicated containers for compostable waste, plastics and aluminium cans. To help with this, they are asking staff to donate clean recycled ice cream tubs and boxes, which will be used to store and sort the waste.

The Year 10 Connections class, together with the Community Connections Captains, will maintain a weekly roster to collect and dispose of the waste correctly, using our school compost bins and local recycling facilities.

This is just one of the many ideas they are developing to help our school reduce its environmental impact. We look forward to seeing the positive changes this project will bring and encourage everyone to support their efforts to make our school a greener place.

Student Attendance

There's so much to gain by showing up at school every day.

Every school day is a chance to learn something new, connect with friends and build the future you want. Being here matters - for your progress, your confidence and your success.

And as a fun bonus...

Students with 100% attendance from Monday, 26th May to the end of term will go into the draw to win a Family Pass to the amazing Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park!

  • Feed kangaroos and meet koalas and wombats
  • Learn about conservation and native wildlife
  • Explore a magical night tour with your family

Come to school for your future - stay consistent, stay curious and you might be rewarded along the way.

We thank Moonlit Sanctuary for their kind donation.
