Hello from our students and teachers
Respect, Responsibility and Kindness
Grade 2/3 have been enjoying lots of hands-on learning within their Maths and Science lessons this term.
MATHS
Students have been further developing their knowledge and skills for addition and subtraction this term. They have been practicing using a range of strategies to solve both addition and subtraction equations. Students have also been introduced the CUBES strategy to help them solve worded problems.
Over the past 2 weeks, students have been learning about angles. In particular, angles that are less than or greater than a right angle. To support the learning students have been having fun within the classroom and around the playground using their angle maker to identify angles in the world around them. They even used their bodies to represent angles!
INQUIRY
The inquiry unit this term is focussed on the learning area of Science. Students have been exploring forces and motion. This unit has enabled students to enjoy lots of hands-on learning whilst having fun with their friends. So far, students have worked in small groups using ballons to test out the theory of gravity. They completed several mini activities outside making predictions about friction. This week students learnt about levers. They made their own catapults and experimented using various objects to determine the outcome when the position of the fulcrum is moved. The lesson concluded with a friendly competition to see who could hit the target using their catapults.
