Autumn Concert
A BIG congratulations to all students who performed at our Autumn Concert which was held in the Theatrette. It was a full house which was great to see. Our Ensembles and Soloists did a great job performing their repertoire and solo pieces. The level of playing amongst all groups is increasing. This was evident throughout the evening. A big thank you goes to all students who helped set up equipment the Theatrette. Thomas Hanson did a professional job looking after the lighting on the night. Thank you to Pete Howell and Winston Galea who came along and performed with our rhythm students. And last, our wonderful instrumental music teachers Robyn Keane and Donna Stemberger for their teaching and support they give to our instrumental music students.
Live4Life Excursion in Sale
We would like to acknowledge guitarist Harrison Rowley who performed a few solo items at the recent Live4Life day which was held in Sale. Well done Harrison on representing Maffra SC.
East Gippsland Music Festival
Students in the junior and intermediate concert bands and string students are invited once again to participate in the East Gippsland Music Festival held at Bairnsdale Secondary College. The festival begins on Monday 30th June and concludes on Thursday 3rd July 2025. Instrumental music students will be taking part in full day combined rehearsals with students from Bairnsdale SC, Lakes Entrance SC, Orbost CC, Nagle College and their feeder Primary Schools. Our ensembles have already commenced rehearsing the repertoire in preparation for the festival. This is going to be a great week of music making.
The rehearsal timetable is as follows:
· Monday 30th June - ALL INTERMEDIATE BAND STUDENTS
· Tuesday 1st July - ALL JUNIOR BAND STUDENTS
· Wednesday 2nd July - ALL STRING STUDENTS
· Thursday 3rd July – ALL SENIOR BAND STUDENTS
Rehearsals commence at 10.15am and conclude at 2pm each day. Our music students will depart the College at 9am and they will return by 3.15pm in time to take buses home. Students will be transported in a Coach driven by Boyle’s Bus Service. Each student must pay a fee of $10 to cover the cost of transport. All students are to bring their lunch and drink bottle. A canteen will be available for the purchase of small items so if you would like your child to access this, please provide them with some spending money on the day. Students must remember to bring their instrument and music to school on the day of their rehearsal. Some students in the intermediate band will also attend the junior band day on Tuesday. This is a wonderful opportunity for our music students where they get to experience playing in a large ensemble.
GALA CONCERT: Thursday 3rd July at Bairnsdale SC (Compulsory for all music students)
All students should have received a notice and permission slip to complete and return to the front office.
Lessons
Our students have been excellent in attending their weekly music lessons although I have noticed quite a few instruments left in the hallway at the end of the week. A reminder to all students to take their instrument home after their lesson so they can practice before their next scheduled lesson. Remember practice makes perfect!
On behalf of all instrumental music staff, enjoy the rest of the term.
