WHAT: A short story, up to 1500 words.
WHEN: The Collins Booksellers Warrnambool Great South Coast Young Writers' Prize will open June 1st, 2025, and entries will close midnight July 31st, 2025. The Shortlist will be determined by 10th August, 2025 and the winner will be announced Saturday 23rd August, 2025.
WHERE: The Great South Coast region includes Apollo Bay, Beech Forest, Colac, Camperdown, Terang, Cudgee, Mortlake, Wangoom, Warrnambool, Koroit, Port Fairy, Dunkeld, Coleraine, Hamilton, Portland, Heywood, and Cavendish areas.
WHO: Any students who reside and study in the Great South Coast region who are in Years 5 - 8 are eligible to enter.
HOW: Email youngwriters@collinsbooks.com.au with your entry attached as a Word document. In the body of the email, please provide:
- Your Name
- Your Date of Birth
- Your Address
- Your School Year
- Your School Name
- Parent/Guardian Name
- Parent/Guardian Phone Number
- Title of Your Entry
- 100 Words About Your Entry (optional)
By submitting an entry, you attest that the attached file is your work alone.
THE PRIZE: The winner will receive $1000 of vouchers to spend at Collins Booksellers Warrnambool over the course of a year. The winner's school will receive a $500 credit to spend at Collins Booksellers Warrnambool over the course of a year. The winner will also receive a letter from Prize Judge, award-winning, best-selling author Judith Rossell, and have their entry published in full in The Warrnambool Standard.
- Shortlisted entrants will be notified of their shortlist status by email
- The shortlisted entries will be judged by author Judith Rossell
- The winning entrant will be notified by phone prior to the announcement date
- All entries will be checked for word length compliance and be screened for AI usage
- Prize vouchers/account credits cannot be used to purchase gift cards
- In the case of a home-schooled winner, the $500 bookshop credit will be offered to Home Education Network
- Immediate family of judges or Collins Booksellers Warrnambool staff are not eligible to enter
