Teaching and Learning -A focus on the Daily Review

At LPPS we use a teaching practice called the Daily Review in both Literacy and Math sessions from Foundation to Year 6.

Research shows that the daily review helps to reinforce learning, build fluency, and ensure students have the necessary skills for the day's lesson. It's a short, fast paced review of previously taught information that lasts from 5 -15 minutes.

Key aspects of a daily review:

  • Focus: Revisiting and reinforcing previously learned concepts and skills.

  • Engagement: Involves active student participation, such as answering questions, solving problems, or using mini whiteboards.

  • Purpose: To help students transfer information from short-term to long-term memory, which is essential for long-term retention.

Benefits of daily reviews:

  • Improved retention: By revisiting concepts regularly, students are more likely to remember and retain information.

  • Increased fluency: Repeated practice of skills helps students become more proficient.
