As part of the Grade 1 history unit on Everyday Family Life and How It Changes Over Time, students interviewed an older family member to learn about their past experiences. They asked questions such as:
After completing their interviews, the students prepared a short two-minute presentation and shared their findings with the class.
Grade 3 students were given a design brief to construct a campsite in STEM. They did a fantastic job making 3D shapes and working collaboratively. They have moved on to coding this term and they are designing and coding their very own game.
We love recycling in STEM, so if you have anything we may find useful, please bring it in for our fantastic projects. There is a donation box in the corridor outside the STEM room.
Also a big shout out to the Langwarrin Men's Shed, who made some stands for our test tubes. Thank you!
We recently had the pleasure of welcoming EMC, including some of their talented music students, who treated us to a series of instrumental and vocal performances. It was a special moment to see some of our former LPPS students return, now continuing their musical journey, accompanied by Mrs. Pendlebury—the teacher who played a key role in nurturing their early musical development.
Students in Years 3 to 5 were especially inspired by the performances. They were captivated by the skill and passion on display, and many expressed feeling motivated to work towards similar musical achievements themselves. It was a wonderful reminder of where a strong foundation in the arts can lead!
We are excited to announce that the Lunchtime LEGO and Coloring Club is now up and running. Students are invited to enjoy a calm and creative break in the Library during second play on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. This is a great opportunity for students to engage in quiet play, relax, and express their creativity through building and coloring activities. All are welcome!
We are also fortunate to offer a Puzzle and Drawing Club for students who enjoy quiet, creative activities. The club takes place in the Library during second play on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It's a wonderful opportunity for students to unwind, challenge their minds with puzzles, and express themselves through drawing in a calm and welcoming environment. All students are welcome to join!
This week, Grade 3 students took part in a fun and engaging 90-minute science incursion focused on Earth and Space Sciences. Students explored the relationships between the Earth, Moon and Sun through hands-on activities and interactive models.
They investigated how the Earth’s rotation causes day and night, how shadows change, and why we experience different seasons. Students also learned about gravity, moon phases, and how solar and lunar eclipses occur by modelling the positions of the Earth, Moon and Sun.
By the end of the session, students had a clearer understanding of the movements in our solar system and were excited to share their new knowledge. It was an out-of-this-world experience! 🌍🌙☀️
Last fortnight, our Year 3–6 students began their exciting music lessons!
These extra-curricular sessions include vocals, guitar, drums, and keyboard. Students have been eager to try new instruments and learn about rhythm, melody, and working together as a group.
Music is a great way for students to build confidence, creativity, and teamwork — and of course, have fun!
Keep an eye on your Compass communications for upcoming music performances. We can’t wait to hear what our talented students have been learning and creating!
