SOLO CAT

There were some fabulous performances at last week’s Solo CAT nights, held over two big nights last Wednesday and Thursday. It takes a lot of courage to perform in front of peers, family and friends, and we congratulate all our instrumental students for the poise and musicianship they displayed throughout both evenings. It was fantastic to see and hear the support students gave each other, in their respectful attention during performances, and their encouraging and positive comments flying around after each performance.

Thanks to Janice Wilding, Conrad Nilsson, and Emma Moffatt for all their work helping students prepare for this assessment. There were nearly fifty performers on each night, so thanks to all these staff for their fabulous work beyond the school day. Many thanks to Amanda Linton for organising the whole event.

Thanks to Frank Huang and Michael Wilding for accompanying students on piano, a much-appreciated enhancement to each performance!

Thanks also to Music Support for selling popcorn, lollies and drinks at the event, raising money for our programs and as always adding to the festival vibe.

Congratulations to Asher Watts, whose standout performance on Thursday night has earnt him a performance slot at the Winter Concert!

Combined Bands Day

Last Tuesday Intermediate Band participated in the 2025 Combined Bands Day, this year hosted by Iona College. All students took part in a workshop with leading conductor Ari Farrer, working on two pieces to perform at the evening concert. Each school performed two items at the concert, then all schools combined to conclude the concert with a fabulous performance featuring nearly 200 musicians.

Many thanks to Amanda Linton for her organisation of the event, and to Emma Moffatt for supervision and student support throughout the day.

Many thanks to Christopher McAvaney for assisting with supervision during the dinner break.

SoulSonics

On Thursday selected students participated in ‘SoulSonics’, a Department of Education sponsored program aimed at introducing students to using Ableton to create their own music. Students recorded ‘found’ sounds around BHS, then used these samples to sequence some amazing works. Many thanks to Jason who facilitated this session for our students.

The Winter Concert is on Wednesday June 18th in the BHS Gym.

Foyer entertainment from 6.30pm.

All ensembles are performing at this event, so make sure you come along and hear the incredible talent amongst our BHS music students!
