Mordialloc Senior Boys Crowned Kingston Division Champions After Remarkable Turnaround

The Mordialloc College Senior Boys AFL team have claimed the Kingston Division championship in stunning fashion, bouncing back from an early defeat to cap off a brilliant day of football with a dominant performance in the grand final.

The campaign began with a strong showing against Brighton in Round 1, where Mordialloc controlled the contest from start to finish, running out convincing winners. The team’s defensive pressure and ability to convert inside 50s proved the difference.

However, round 2 brought a reality check. Up against a well-drilled McKinnon side, Mordialloc struggled to find rhythm and fell short in a 4.3.27 to 1.9.15 loss. Despite the setback, the group-maintained belief and used the defeat as motivation heading into the finals.

In the crossover semi-final, Mordialloc faced a huge challenge—taking on Pool A’s top-ranked team, Bentleigh. In a seesawing contest filled with pressure and momentum swings, Mordialloc held their nerve and made the most of their forward entries to grind out a thrilling 5.11.41 to 5.6.36 victory. The result was a testament to the team’s resilience and belief in one another.

Fittingly, the grand final offered a chance at redemption, as Mordialloc met McKinnon once again—this time with the title on the line. From the opening bounce, Mordialloc played inspired football, dominating all over the ground and shutting down McKinnon’s key playmakers. With clinical ball movement and relentless defensive pressure, they turned the tables with a resounding 8.4.52 to 3.4.22 win to be crowned Kingston Division champions.

While the campaign featured some standout individual performances—including Maddi Sinn’s composure under pressure, Ethan Sorrell’s toughness at the contest, Cooper Coats’ clean ball use, and the impact of Ashton Lawrence, Harvey Field, and Jack Lawson across all four quarters—it was ultimately a whole-team effort that drove Mordialloc’s success. Every line stood up, and the unity of the playing group was evident in the way they lifted one another throughout the day.

The result is a deserved reward for a group that played hard, played for each other, and proved that setbacks are simply stepping stones to success.

The boys now look to the Southern Metropolitan Regional Finals on Tuesday July 22nd for a place in the State Quarter Finals.
