Glenelg Division Senior Girls Football
The GD senior girls football team prepared very well for this year’s annual carnival. Numbers at all training sessions were most encouraging and the girls were eager to learn new skills and the rules of football as well as having fun along the way.
Tarah Bond of Year 12 was a dedicated and skillful player within the group who trained with vigor and enthusiasm on all occasions. She was unanimously selected by her peers to be our captain for this carnival and on the day was a fierce competitor and an inspirational leader. She was ably supported by Jess Meade also of Year 12 who was the team vice-captain.
The team played with great spirit, enthusiasm and demonstrated a proficient skill level during all games. Their handball skills was a feature, along with some fierce but fair tackles. We played 5 shortened games against other district schools and were successful in all 5 matches, thus making us the premiers and champions at the end of the carnival.
Most girls made positive contributions over the 5 games, but we did have some excellent players who deserve special mention.
On-baller Matilda Mason was superb in all 5 matches. Her pace, determination and skill level with either hand or foot was most admirable. Eliza Cozens (ruck), Matilda Brook (half forward), Tarah Bond (centre) and Skye Kissel (ruck rover) played important roles and never gave up and provided lots of drive out of the centre and in general play. Lucy McLaren (wing) was a very good player until injured and Macy Riley was a more than useful forward line player. Mia Hetherington (wing) used her pace to great advantage picking up numerous possessions uncontested.
Two other highlights on the day; Elivia Robbins’ “run down” tackle from behind was straight from the textbook and witnessing Mia Hetherington’s post goal celebration was something to behold; it was Mia’s first goal in competitive football!
Special thanks to Harrison Blohm, Eddie Steele and Matt Calvert for their great assistance throughout the carnival. Well done boys!

GWR Cross Country
On Monday, 26th May, 48 students competed in the GWR Cross Country in Warrnambool. Despite the cold and wind, which even forced a course change, everyone ran incredibly well.
Special congratulations to Leayla Pohl for placing second in the 15-year girls event. Well done also to all those who qualified for the State Cross Country on 24th July, including; Harry McShane, Archie Templeton, Ruby Fitzpatrick, Leayla Pohl, Astrid White, Holly Rook, Sydney Todd, Edie Kent, Matilda Mason, Matilda Brook, Lillian Glazebrook, and myself.
A huge shoutout to our 15-year girls team for coming second, and to the 16-year girls and 17-20-year girls teams for winning their age groups.
Finally, thank you to Mrs Couchman, Mr Claire, and Ms Byron for supporting us on the day!

GD Soccer Year 7-8
On Monday, 2nd June, a group of Year 7-8 boys played a full day at GD Soccer. With no substitutes everyone gave it their all from start to finish. The team included Aiden Mhasho, Chase Williams, Harry Manley, Liam Ferguson, Sineth Hansa, Erix Eldhose, Naethan Joseph, Jesh Kenechukwu, Joshua Kenechukwu, Finn Beattie, and myself, Billy Fitzpatrick. Despite the challenge of having no-one on the bench, we communicated well, showed great sportsmanship, and worked together as a strong, united team. Every player stepped up, and our hard work paid off as we played excellent for the whole day and earned a spot in regional soccer. We ended up winning the Year 8 competition.

GD Soccer Year 9-10
On Monday, 2nd June, the Year 9-10 boys headed off to Pedrina Park to play GD soccer. It was a perfect day for it with no rain. We played Baimbridge twice, two Portland Secondary teams once and Bayview College twice. The boys played very well and ended up winning all 6 games. We only conceded two goals all day and scored 15 goals in total with our top goal scorers being Oscar Fanning and Jensen Moore. The boys won overall and we will be heading off to Ballarat in a few weeks to play GWR soccer.
