Learning in P9

In P9 we have been exploring self-regulation. Self-regulation is the ability to control and manage our feelings and emotions. If we develop self-regulation skills we will be better able to think before we act in moments of stress or uncertainty.

We have been exploring emotions such as anger and frustration. We drew pictures of what makes us feel this way, and have begun working through what our body does. To build our understanding of how to manage our emotions in practice we then made life jackets. These are going to help keep us afloat in times of stress. On our life jackets we added pictures of what strategies we could use when we need to regulate.

Some strategies P9 students use are accessing our calm corner, taking a walk, using a fidget, having a drink or something to eat. By building our emotional literacy and exploring regulation strategies, we are better equipped to be ready to tackle learning challenges.
