Lake Dewar Camp

On 11th June, 5/6s headed off to Lake Dewar Camp in Myrniong. Before we went to camp, we all practised really hard to get our sleeping bags in the sleeping cases so we could do it on our own in the end. We arrived at school, with our overpacked luggage, and we were prancing with excitement and joy on our faces.

Day 1

It was a pretty quick bus ride, about 1 and a half hours. We jumped off the bus full of excitement, and headed inside the conference centre, where we ate our snacks and fruits. Our camp leaders briefed us on the camp rules and expectations, and told us what we were going to do today. But first we had to get our cabins organised, fitting sheets and calling bunks top or bottom. We all completed two activity rotations on the first day. It was way too windy for canoeing on the first day, but luckily those groups got to do it on Day 3. Dinner was pasta bolognese, pasta with a mushroom sauce and yummy garlic bread. A 1.5km night walk tired us out.  After that everyone went back to their cabins and slept.

Day 2

Everyone woke up looking tired and sleepy, we filled up on breakfast and headed off to more activity rotations. My favourite bit was Geocaching which was seriously tiring. My second favourite activity was Kickbiking (a cross between a mountain bike and scooter), which was a great experience. Dinner was roast chicken, veggies and gravy, and apple strudel. After dinner we had our trivia night, organised by Ms McCann and a few students. Then it was time for us sleepy heads to go straight to their cabins (yes we brushed our teeth, parents).

Day 3

After Day 2 being a blast everyone was hyped for the Amazing Race. My favourite bit was the archery, I nearly got a bullseye. We announced the overall winners, head lunch, sang Happy Birthday to Mrs Newman and hopped on the bus absolutely exhausted. Once we got back to school, everyone was so sluggish that they went home straight away. We backed up camp with the AFL Gala day, competing against Toorak, Windsor, Armadale St Kilda, St Kilda Park and South Yarra Primary Schools. All teams did a fabulous job, considering our huge week.

Thanks to Mrs Newman, Onda sensei, Ms McCann, Ms Molloy, Morioka sensei, Aidan sensei, Caroline and Mr Gray for looking after us all week.

Year 5/6 Camp - Lake Dewar
