Teaching and Learning and Marrung Update
Assistant Principal Update
Brooke Roy
The end of the term marks an exciting close to a great term of Teaching and Learning, Teacher Coaching and the Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan.
Enhancing Teaching and Learning
This term, our dedicated staff have made significant strides in enhancing teaching and learning within our classrooms. With targeted professional development in Instructional Skills, our teachers are constantly working towards creating dynamic and engaging learning environments. 100% of our teachers this term have received feedback in our Instructional Observations. This has involved two members of the School Improvement Team visiting 3 classrooms at random and providing timely feedback for Glows and Grows observed in teacher practice. Feedback from our teachers highlights the benefits seen in receiving this feedback which also now includes SWPBS strategies and phases of our Western Port Instructional Model.
Teacher Coaching and Mentoring
Next Term our 1:1 Coaching focus shifts to Year 12 teachers and middle leaders with a 'Pathways to Leadership' Course. This is run 'in house' by our Teaching and Learning Coach, Judy Curson and continues to enhance the leadership strength within our staff.
Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan
Our commitment to the Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan remains strong and we have been chosen as a beacon school this year for how well we are moving in this space to support all key stakeholders.
Our Semester 2 Marrung Action Plan will be released to DET/wider community at the start of next term and really highlights student voice within our College. We have also established our first Marrung Working Party specifically addressing our current curriculum Years 7 - 12 and strengthening any opportunities/gaps. We are also hosting our first KELiS (Koorie Emerging Leaders in Schools) event in Term 4 where 80 Koorie students from 16 local Secondary Colleges will join us at Western Port for a day of culture and wellbeing.
A highlight of this Semester was celebrating First Nation students' achievements and integrating Indigenous perspectives during Reconciliation Week. Our College highlighted the importance of both Mob and Allies coming together, Now More Than Ever.
Take care over the break and I look forward to sharing our next update mid Term 3.
Kind Regards,
Brooke Roy
