Years 10 - 12
Laura Higgins
Dear Parents and Students,
As we approach the end of Semester 1, it's a moment to reflect on the achievements and experiences our students have had over the past months, while also preparing for the exciting opportunities Semester 2 will bring.
With the semester ending, our students are wrapping up their learning and assessments. It's been a productive time with everyone working hard to meet their academic goals. We commend our students for their dedication and focus throughout this period.
Our VCE students recently undertook the General Achievement Test (GAT), a significant milestone in their senior secondary studies. This pen-and-paper test not only helps ensure the quality of VCE assessments but also allows students to demonstrate their literacy and numeracy skills at a senior level. We applaud our students for their effort and focus during this important assessment.
Year 10 Pathways and Course Counselling
Our Year 10 students have been actively engaged in exploring their future pathways through a comprehensive course counselling program. This involved exciting excursions and experience days to vocational and tertiary providers such as Deakin, Chisholm, and Monash Universities. These experiences are crucial in helping our students make informed decisions as they prepare for VCE ATAR or VCE VM pathways.
Senior School Sport
The enthusiasm for Senior School Sport has been remarkable this term, with a high level of student involvement across various activities. We're proud of our students' commitment to staying active and representing our school with sportsmanship and dedication.
VET Active Volunteering
A standout initiative this term was our VET Active Volunteering program's engagement with Regenerate Org. This charitable organization, dedicated to supporting survivors of family violence, has welcomed our students as volunteers. This partnership not only provides valuable community support but also enriches our students' learning through practical involvement in meaningful causes.
Exciting Learning Opportunities
In the space of practical learning experiences, our VCE Food Tech and Sociology students will be exploring the multicultural food heritage of Australia through a tour of the Victorian Markets. This hands-on experience will enhance their understanding and contribute to their assessments in these subjects.
Additionally, our VCE Art students are eagerly anticipating a visit to the Heide Museum of Modern Art as part of their Unit 3 Art Creative Practice. We are thrilled to extend this opportunity to passionate students from lower year levels who are engaged in the arts. This excursion promises to inspire creativity and deepen our students' appreciation for contemporary art.
Western Port Radio Show
Our CARE Captains have launched the Western Port Radio Show with Mr. Nolan, providing a platform to discuss school matters and showcase insightful staff interviews. It's wonderful to see our student leaders taking initiative and fostering communication within our school community.
As we approach the school holidays, we are confident that our students are well-prepared for a well-deserved break whilst preparing for Semester 2. You can expect your child to have holiday homework assigned by their teachers, and VCE students should be engaging in exam seminar which can be found online and are often free of charge. Year 10 students need to ensure that they have their novel, Night, and read this over the break. For our Year 12 students we encourage you visit some of the various Uni and Tafe open days!
We wish all our families a restful and enjoyable holiday period. We eagerly anticipate the exciting events and continued learning opportunities that Semester 2 will bring for our Senior School community. Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community. Together, we look forward to another successful semester ahead.
