School Wide Positive Behaviour Support/College Attendance Policy
Xavier McLaurin
At WPSC, our Ready to Learn Plans were created for students by students. Implemented in 2023, our student CARE Captains visited Monterey Secondary College (2022 VEEA School Improvement Winner) to speak to their School Captains about their approach to implementing a safe and orderly learning environment. From this visit, our students chose to bring back to Western Port Secondary College, student Ready to Learn Plans based on the Berry Street Education Model of trauma informed education (a leading approach in education in Australia today).
Ready to learn plans work with the existing School Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework as a set of strategies students and staff can use to help students engage in learning or self-manage problem behaviours. At the college, we are proud to say that every student has access to a Ready to Learn Plan. These plans enable a student to regulate their learning and wellbeing in selecting the following strategies:
In class strategies (5min):
External to class strategies (5min)
Over the holidays, speak to your child on how they use the Ready to Learn Plans and how it supports them to maximise their learning in the classroom.
Kind Regards,
Xavier McLaurin
