Dear Western Port Secondary College Community,

Womin Djeka and welcome to another edition of the Western Port Word, filled with messages of pride, progress and the achievements we've made as a college this term.

Living our CARE Values

Every morning as I welcome our students to school on the gate, I continue to see countless examples of positive and respectful engagement from our students as active members of our community. Whether it’s in the classroom, on the sports field, or during excursions and community events, our students embody the CARE values that make Western Port Secondary College a remarkable place to work and learn.

Parental Involvement and Feedback

We really appreciate the time and effort parents and carers put into completing our feedback surveys. With nearly 100 responses, the data indicates strong positive endorsements in several key areas of the parent/carer survey. Overall, parent satisfaction, experiences that the school values parent/carer contributions, the school's consistent approach to promoting positive behaviour, and understanding how students are assessed are all in the 75th percentile. These consistently high levels of endorsement are encouraging, and we are committed to maintaining and growing these positive markers throughout Term 3 so keep engaging with us through these surveys to support our ongoing work.

Uniform over Winter

As we move deeper into winter, I remind everyone of the importance of maintaining the high level of uniform seen every day. The college sports uniforms are permitted to be worn all day by only our Year 7 and 8 students when they have junior sport which will be clear on their daily Compass timetables. We understand that short-term uniform issues do occur however, please ensure that your student has a note from home and we will work together to resolve any longer-term uniform needs.

Our college council is exploring options for a college puffer jacket, which we expect to be available for the 2025 school year. In the meantime, students can layer black or white long-sleeve tops (no hoods) under their uniform to stay warm. We also have some loan items available for students to collect in the morning if needed.

Campus Improvements

Excitingly, the front landscaping in the bus bay is nearing completion, marking one of the final components of our capital works project. A significant feature of this new space will be the mega graphic of the term "WOMIN DJEKA" on the new concrete. This local language term is loosely translated as "welcome" and "come with purpose," which beautifully captures the essence of our school's vision and will serve as a lasting narrative for our community.

I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable mid-year break. We look forward to seeing our students return on Tuesday, 16th July, following the student-free curriculum day on Monday, 15th July.

Kind Regards,

Chris Quinn
