IB Learner Profile: Thinker

In the IB Learner being a "thinker" is a fundamental attribute that transcends mere academic achievement. It embodies the ability to engage with complex problems, applying critical and creative thinking skills to analyze and solve them. Thinkers in the IB community are characterized by their intellectual curiosity and their commitment to exploring ideas deeply and thoughtfully. They approach challenges with a balance of logic and innovation, considering different perspectives and implications of their decisions. This attribute fosters a lifelong love of learning, encouraging students to continuously question, reflect, and grow in their understanding of the world. By cultivating the thinker attribute, the IB aims to develop students who are not only capable of excelling academically but also equipped to contribute thoughtfully and effectively to their communities and the broader global society.

How can parents develop students are THINKERS?

  1. Encourage Curiosity: Answer your child's questions thoughtfully and encourage them to ask more. Show interest in their ideas and inquiries.
  2. Promote Critical Thinking: Engage your child in discussions about current events. Encourage them to consider multiple viewpoints and form their own opinions. Ask open-ended questions that require more than a yes/no answer, prompting them to explain their reasoning.
  3. Encourage Reflection: Help your child develop the habit of reflecting on their learning and experiences. Ask them what they found challenging, what strategies worked, and what they might do differently next time.
