Year Four

Dear Year Four Families,

What a tremendous term it has been so far, all the students have shown that they are resilient, adaptable and balanced as they have made it half way through term two.

Our Year Fours have embarked on an exciting journey with their new Unit of Inquiry under the Transdisciplinary Theme: How We Express Ourselves.

Central Idea: Media is a powerful tool that influences thinking.

In class, our Year Fours have been actively engaged in exploring this central idea. They used a 'See, Think, Wonder' thinking routine to record their wonderings, sparking insightful discussions and deepening their understanding of the influence of media.

We're thrilled to see their curiosity and critical thinking skills in action as they navigate this thought-provoking topic. Stay tuned for more updates on their exploration!

Writing

We have unpacked the new writing unit this week. In this writing unit, students have begun to inquire about information texts. As a tuning in activity, students consolidated their understanding of note taking using different forms of note taking methods such as using a graphic organiser or tapping into their creativity by using a mind map.

Reading

We're excited to share that our Year Four students have been deeply engaged in exploring non-fiction texts in class! From captivating informational articles, they've been delving into a world of knowledge.

One aspect they've been particularly enthusiastic about is identifying different types of leads in non-fiction writing. Whether it's a surprising fact, a thought-provoking question, or a vivid description, our young readers are discovering the power of engaging introductions that draw readers into the text.

Mathematics

In class, the Year Fours have been exploring the foundational concepts of addition and subtraction through hands-on activities, group discussions, and problem-solving tasks. From understanding number relationships to mastering regrouping strategies, our young learners are making remarkable strides in their mathematical journey.

It's been inspiring to witness their enthusiasm as they tackle challenging problems and discover the beauty of mathematical reasoning. Through collaborative learning experiences and individual exploration, our students are gaining a deep understanding of how numbers interact and evolve.
