News from Health and Wellbeing

Term 2 has been busy in Health and Wellbeing.

Our focus for Health has been the Butterfly Body Bright Program which has heightened our awareness and generated great discussions about our bodies and the bodies of others.

Body Bright helps our children to be:

  • Brave in their bodies, by empowering them to stand up for their own bodies and for others.
  • Resilient by strengthening their media literacy skills, by helping them to deconstruct and challenge the messages and images they hear and see.
  • Inclusive of all bodies and know that bodies looking and functioning differently is something to celebrate - so that everyone feels like they belong in the world and our school community.
  • Grateful for their body, focusing on the things it can do and appreciating themselves for their inner qualities and strengths so that they can see their worth and value, beyond their body shape and appearance.
  • Happy in their bodies by engaging in fun and joyful movement, regularly.
  • Thoughtful with their eating by helping children to learn to listen to their body cues, be mindful when eating, and to be curious and non-judgemental towards foods. These approaches can help to build a positive relationship with food and eating.

Butterfly Body Bright reflections

Grade Prep “Butterfly Body Bright has taught us many things like how to be brave and be resilient in our bodies. We are also learning to be inclusive of everyone no matter how different we all are.”

Grade 1 ”We like how everyone is different and if we weren’t different it would the same like one coloured rainbow and that is not really colourful.”

Grade 2 “Body Bright has helped us learn to stand up for our friends and ourselves. We have enjoyed the fun lessons, the different activities and it has taught us to be happy in our bodies.”

Grade 3 “Body Bright has lots of fun and different activities to help us feel good about our body but also understand that it is cool for all of us to look different. We are all unique and special!”

Grade 4 “It has helped us be more positive about ourselves, our body and to like ourselves more. We are learning about the different things that we can do with our bodies to be happy and healthy.”

Grade 5  “We are aware that we need to be positive about who we are and our bodies. We have become more grateful for what our bodies can do.”

Grade 6 “We like that BRIGHT has been broken up into sections about our bodies and we are learning to be kinder to ourselves and others.”

Our focus for Wellbeing continues to be the Zones of Regulation check ins. They have become the norm in the morning and throughout the day. The regulation of our emotions is an important skill for our students and us adults. We are continually working on understanding and recognising our own emotions and the emotions of others. These emotions play an important part every day and are strongly linked to our behaviours.

The Zones of Regulation reflections

Grade Prep “The Zones help us to know how we are feeling. We have all learnt different ways of helping ourselves get back into the Green Zone.”

Grade 1 “The Zones have helped us learn strategies like counting to ten or reading a book when we are sad and it makes us feel better.”

Grade 2 “The Zones of Regulation help us when we are in the Red or Blue Zone – we’re able to manage our emotions and think about what we could be doing to help calm ourselves down by using our toolbox. If someone is feeling sad, we can use the Zones of Regulation to help them move into the Green Zone.”

Grade 3 "We like the Zones because they help us find ways and strategies to get into the Green Zone and also help others if they are not feeling happy."

Grade 4 “It has helped us control our emotions in a good way, express our feelings while telling others how we feel. We are becoming more grateful with positive thoughts.”

Grade 5 “The Zones show our teachers and peers about how we feel. It allows us to check in with our emotions and our toolbox strategies have helped us deal with different emotions that we feel daily.”

Grade 6 “We know that we are in control of our emotions and the Zones are teaching us to express ourselves better and try to be in control of them.”

School Values

Our School Values of RESPECTRESILIENCERESPONSIBILITYLEARNING SUCCESS play an important part of who we are and what we strive to be as individuals and a school community. Not only can these be school values but they can also be used at home and day to day. We will continue to instil the importance of these values in our students.
