NAIDOC Whole School Event
Last Wednesday, Preston PS celebrated NAIDOC week through our Whole School Event Day.
The theme for NAIDOC week this year was ‘Keep the Fire Burning - Blak, Loud and Proud’ and we participated in a whole day of activities led by Henning, Ganga, Baz and Sean from Didgeridoo Australia.
Each House Group listened to stories from them about their cultural experiences with the aim to entertain, educate and inspire!
Our students were able to immerse themselves into these experiences through the following activities:
- Bunjil and Waa – Students worked collaboratively on art murals.
- Song, Dance and Storytelling – a cultural activity where students participated in dance and movement with stories shared.
- Didge and Beats – Dance and music activity where students moved to the rhythm of the didgeridoo.
- Aboriginal Culture – an interactive show and tell activity that aimed to provide a rich history of artefacts used by the aboriginal people including boomerangs, spears and even balls made to play sports that would one day provide inspiration to the creation of Aussie rules.
Overall, it was a fantastic day, and the students were wonderful in the way they listened and participated across all the activities. It was great to see the students interact with their peers from different year levels including seeing many of our senior students being great role models to the younger classes and students.
Thanks to also to our amazing staff who assisted the team from Didgeridoo Australia throughout the day and worked so well with the students!
Also thanks also to our Specialist Team in organising this day especially to Edwina who worked brilliantly getting the art murals ready to go for each rotation.
Here are some thoughts of the day from some students:
