Term 2, Week 11 - Friday 28th June, 2024

Dear Families of OLSC

That's a wrap for semester 1.  Thank you all for a great first half of the year.  There has been a lot jammed into this half of the year and I commend the students for learning so far this year.  Thanks to the staff for their dedication and to all of our families for their support.

Staffing News

Farewell Tasmin

Tasmin has decided to take a break from teaching and will be taking up a new position at Berry Street in the education area.  She will be working on new initiatives and professional development for teachers.

Tasmin has had a major impact on the students here at OLSC and will be missed greatly.  Since beginning at OLSC in the height of the pandemic she has taught across most levels and has developed relationships with students across the school.

Thanks Tasmin for your time here and we wish you well in your new role away from school bells and yard duty!

Farewell Leeza

It has come time for Leeza to return to her home country and family in Canada.  Leeza has been a permanent fixture at OLSC for sometime and, although employed as part of an agency, has been embraced as one of own.  She has worked with students across the school and especially in STEM for the 1/2 and 3/4 levels.

Thanks Leeza for your time with us and all of us have our fingers crossed that you'll be back in 2025.

Congratulations Jessica

Jessica and Daniel welcomed their first baby this week.  Raquelle Rae Morris was born on Monday 24th June and both Jess and Daniel are besotted by her.

Welcome Natasha

Natasha De Lang will be replacing Sam for the remainder of the 2024 school year.  Natasha is an experienced teacher who has taught in South Africa, China and the United States.

Natasha and her husband are moving to Australia and she is looking forward to joining the OLSC team.  She will spend the first week of Term 3 working alongside Sam in the learning space to get to know each student and get a comprehensive understanding of each child’s academic and social / emotional needs.  Natasha is excited to be joining the OLSC team and looking forward to the challenge.

Welcome Anastasia

Next term Anastasia Fairburn will be joining our staff team.  Anastasia has been working in the local area for some time.  She will be working primarily in the 3/4 area in an intervention role and LSL replacement.

Anastasia is looking forward to a change in system and a new challenge.

Shout Out to Jannine's Clean Up Heroes

Thanks to Jannine and her LG for volunteering and cleaning up the front of our school.  Well done!

Author Visit - Adam Wallace

As you know, Australian children's author and illustrator, Adam Wallace, is coming to OLSC next term. He has written the Fart Boy, Farty Pets, Fart Club and 'How to Catch a...' series of books (to name a few) - have a look to see if you have any of his books at home!

Please see the flyer below if you would like to order one or some of his books and have them signed. If you order before the 8th of July, the books will be delivered to our school in time for Adam to sign them.

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

A reminder that we are participating in the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge this year. Your child has already received their unique login details from their teacher. If you haven't already, please use the slideshow below to find out how to log them into their dashboard.

Many of our students are well on the way to completing the challenge. So far, the OLSc students who have registered for the challenge have read a whopping 1242 books!!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with your child's teacher via Dojo or email me at kmorrissey@olscwyn.catholic.edu.au

First Eucharist Community Masses

The June Community Mass was also the First Eucharist Celebration for many of our Year 4 students.  The students were prepared well by John and the 3/4 staff and the celebration was a very special occasion.  I thank all of the community who made this celebration a very special one.

The next First Eucharist Mass will be part of the July Community Mass on Sunday July 21st at 10:00am in the Sports Centre.  I invite everyone to come along and celebrate with the second half of our First Eucharist group.

Swimming Program - Online Information Night (August 6th, 7:00 pm)

On the 6th August we will have a information session about our upcoming whole school swimming program.  This will provide an overview of the swimming program and give the opportunity for any questions.  More information and a link will be sent out next term.

Thanks again to everyone in our school community for a great term.  From all of us here at OLSC we wish you a great mid year break and look forward to what next term brings.  See you on Monday 15th July.

Justin and all of the staff at OLSC
