Reminders:
Main entrance
We are so impressed with the new confidence the Preps are showing in the morning. It has been wonderful to see their big, proud smiles as they walk through the main entrance independently. The Prep team would like to extend a big thank you to all the families supporting their children with this new step.
Homework
Thank you for your continued support in instilling a strong homework routine for your child. It is wonderful to see so many faces on our Mathseeds posters each week.
The expectation is 1 lesson of Mathseeds completed a week (Sunday - Saturday). Please remember that Sunday starts the new week.
The other homework expectation is reading 4 nights for 10 - 15 minutes. This is to be written in your child's diary and signed. Diaries should come to school every Friday to be checked. When we see the diary has been filled out every night, we will mark them as completed.

Scienceworks Excursion
We are so excited to be visiting Scienceworks on Tuesday the 13th of August. Please make sure your child arrives at school on time. Students are expected to wear their school uniform and bring their food in a plastic bag, clearly labelled with their name.
iPad
In Year One, using iPads is integral to our student's learning. Please support your child in making sure their iPad comes to school fully charged. We do not want any child missing out on the educational activities that involve using the devices.

Parent Volunteers:
We are looking for parent volunteers for the Year 2 In-Visit – ‘A Bright Idea’, which will occur on Tuesday, 27th of August 2024 at school. This in-visit will occur in 3 different sessions, so you can choose to volunteer for the whole day or just for the session your child will be in.
Grade | Time |
---|---|
2A | Session 1 from 9:15am – 11am |
2B | Session 2 from 11:30am – 1:30pm |
2C | Session 3 from 2:00pm – 3:30pm |
‘A Bright Idea’ is a woodworking in-visit where students will work step by step with an instructor to build wooden models with a light bulb. A volunteer’s role is to ensure that students are following the instructor’s directions, using their tools safely and provide additional support if students need it.
If you are interested in volunteering for 'A Bright Idea', please email Miss Shir Chi at shirchi.sun@smps.vic.edu.au, with your child’s name and the session(s) you will be available to volunteer for.

School Diaries
Thank you for supporting your child to fill out the reading log in their School Diary each night. We have been thrilled to see the Grade 4 students developing the new habit of presenting their diaries each morning so we can ensure that their reading is on track throughout the week.

Accelerated Reader Targets
The Year 5 students are now working towards achieving both their reading volume and comprehension targets. We really appreciate parent support when working towards these targets. You can support your child by checking in with them about their progress.
School Arrival
We have noticed a huge improvement in students arriving on time to school. Please continue to support your child to arrive in school before 9am. This allows students to get organised for the day and take AR quizzes.

Reading Homework and Diaries:
Our goal is to have 100% of students reading each night, recording their reading in their diary and have their diary signed by a parent. We ask for your support with building this habit to help best prepare your child for secondary school.
