Year 3/4

The past few weeks have been a busy and exciting time for our Year 3 and 4 students! Two weeks ago, we ventured into the city for an excursion to Melbourne Museum, where students participated in Italian-language tours of the Roma exhibition. This was a fantastic real-world application of our bilingual education, giving students the opportunity to use their Italian to learn about history and culture in an authentic setting. The students also thoroughly enjoyed exploring Bugs Alive!, Our Planet and the History of Melbourne exhibits. A huge thank you to Nancy and our Italian Language Assistants, Martina and Lucrezia, for helping make such a wonderful day possible.
A very warm welcome to Yvonne, who has stepped into the upstairs classrooms with Tucani and Pappagali! She has already slotted into our classrooms and school community seamlessly, and we are very fortunate to have her join us.
This week, of course, has been all about books! We have been blown away by the outstanding Book Week costumes and the incredible effort that students (and parents/carers) have put into bringing their favourite book characters to life. There have been some wonderfully creative and thoughtfully chosen costumes throughout the school. It is a wonderful reflection of how passionate our school community is about literature, storytelling and reading.
How you can help at home
With Book Week also comes a timely reminder of the importance of continuing to read with your children at home. Reading to them, reading with them, or simply listening to them read are all wonderful ways to build confidence and nurture a genuine love of books. Sharing stories also gives parents and carers valuable insight into how their children are developing as readers. A love of reading provides a foundation for so much of what we do and learn at school, and it is one of the greatest gifts we can give our students — together as parents, carers and teachers.
Thank you for continuing to make reading such an important part of our children’s lives.
