Term 1 - Week 4

Principal’s Report

Catholic Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to all students who represented our school at Monday’s Catholic Swimming Carnival.  From all reports our students were extremely competitive and well-mannered.  Thank you to Mrs Vaughan for organising and to the staff who supported this event.

Marong Cup

What a wonderful day at the Marong Cup on Saturday.  Thank you firstly to James Reade for being the St Kilian’s representative on the Marong Cup committee and organising the keen parent helpers to service the BBQ on the day.

Opening Mass

The St Kilian's Primary School Opening Mass will be held on Tuesday 27th February at 6 pm in the St Kilian’s Church.  The school community will gather together for the first time to celebrate the 2024 school year. The Mass will be followed by a BYO picnic for all families in the school grounds.

All families are encouraged to attend and to join in and celebrate the beginning of the school year and to welcome new students and families to the school. During the Mass, new Preps will be accompanied by their Grade 6 buddies as well as the Grade 6 students being presented with their Leadership badges. A reminder that students wear neat casual clothes and sit with their families during the Mass.

We are looking for volunteers to help out with the BBQ after the Opening Mass.  If you can help out either by cooking during mass or serving after mass, please contact Tan Rees on 0409256860

Caritas Launch

Last Tuesday our school choir performed alongside other local catholic school choirs at the Hargraves Mall.  Congratulations to our school choir on their beautiful performance at the Caritas Project Compassion Launch.  A special mention to Mrs Bourke for your preparation of our students.

Shrove Tuesday

Thank you to Mrs Maher, Clare Talbot and the Grade 6 Catholic Identity & Pastoral Care group for preparing our pancakes last Tuesday.  Shrove Tuesday is traditionally a day for some merry-making - a last 'fling' before the long fast. It is best remembered by making pancakes. For most people it is just Pancake Day and nothing more, but the custom arose through the need to use up food items

which were forbidden during Lent.

Ash Wednesday

Last Wednesday our students participated in Ash Wednesday mass led by Fr Junray Rayna.  It was a great reflective celebration preparing us for the season on Lent which officially started on Sunday

Carlton Football Club Visit

The Grade 3 to 6 students enjoyed their visit with some of the AFL & AFLW Carlton players last Wednesday.  The students asked interesting questions to the players as well as had the opportunity to get some memorabilia signed.

Grade 6 Camp

Grade 6 Camp is a valuable experience that provides students with an opportunity to further their learning and social skills development in a non-school setting. The Canberra camp focuses on the Civics and Citizenship curriculum area incorporating an understanding of how we’re governed and our Australian identity. Students develop independence, social skills and deeper conceptual understandings through the direct experience of appropriate camps.

Dates: Tuesday 12th March (arrive at school at 7:00 am for a 7:15 am departure) - Friday 15th March (approx 5:30 pm).

Students from our school will soon be undertaking, an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $45 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
