Years 7-12 House Swimming Carnival

The House Swimming Carnival held on Friday 16 February at the Croydon Memorial Outdoor Swimming Pool had perfect weather for an outdoor event. The day started off overcast, till the sun came out around 11.30am to make it a warm, sunny day for our swimmers.

It was the closest competition between the three Houses this year with each of the Houses taking the lead throughout the day. Tabor Trojans (White House) and Zion Crusaders (Blue House) both finished second on 990 points and at the end of the day it was Gibeon Warriors (Red House) taking home the trophy with a lead of 38 points for a total of 1,028 points. It was a very similar situation to determine the winner of the House Spirit trophy. At the end of the day, Blue House and Red House shared the Spirit Trophy for 2024.

Congratulations to Une Geisler (12.10) on breaking two new records in the Open Boys division. Une broke the Open Boys 50m Freestyle record from the one set in 2015 by Luke Pattison (Class of 2016) from 27:07 to 26:06 and Luke’s Individual Medley Record from 2015 from 2:33:96 to 2:20:03. Une now holds every individual swimming record for Open Boys at Oxley!

The event finished with a novelty event by our House Captains, Vice Captains and teachers to close off the day in great spirit. The points accumulated by each House are shown below.

Oxley Boys Win EISM Division 2 Swimming

It was a great result for Oxley when our Boys Swimming Team was announced the winners in the Boys category in the EISM Division 2 Swimming Competition this year against some strong competition from Eltham College and Plenty Valley. This was due to great individual performances from Une Geisler, Henry Zhao, Sanaa Geisler and Tom Weighell.

The event took place at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) on Tuesday 5 March. The EISM run both Division 3 and Division 2 at the same time at this event with Division 3 schools swimming their event first followed by Division 2 schools.

Une Geisler (12.10) was the stand-out at this event breaking two EISM records in the Open Boys 50m Backstroke (from 27.89 to 27.36) and his own Open Boys 50m Breaststroke record from 30.79 to 30.10. Une was the only swimmer at the event to break an EISM record, Congratulations, Une!

Lucy Weighell (10.1) stood out for the girls by winning the U/16 Girls 50m Freestyle, the U/16 Girls 50m Backstroke, second in the Girls 50m Butterfly and third in the Open Girls 100m Freestyle.

Henry Zhao (10.4) came first in the U/16 Boys Freestyle, U/16 Boys Backstroke and U/16 Boys Butterfly.

Sanaa Geisler (9.11) came first in U/15 Boys Freestyle, U/15 Boys Backstroke and U/15 Boys Breaststroke.

Tom Weighell (9.9) came first in the U/14 Boys Breaststroke, second in the U/14 Boys 50m Butterfly and third in the U/14 Boys 50m Freestyle and the U/14 Boys 50m Backstroke.

Congratulations to all our other Oxley swimmers for your outstanding efforts on the day and your outstanding behaviour in representing the College against other schools. Your participation and achievements are much appreciated.

House Athletics Carnival

We were blessed with great weather for our annual House Athletics Canrival this year. It was cloudy at first, but not too cold with a great atmosphere as students supported their Houses throughout the day. The House Athletics Carnival was held on Thursday 29 February at the Tom Kelly Athletics Track in Doncaster East. The day started off with a close competition between the three Houses, but one House started to increase their lead before lunch time.

After a close victory in the swimming two weeks before, Gibeon Warriors (Red House) came back strong in the Athletics to win the day with 1,927 points, 205 points ahead for their closest rival Zion Crusaders (Blue House) who finished second with 1,722 points followed by Tabor Trojans (White House) with 1,567 points. The three Houses started the Carnival with a chant competition towards their points for the house spirit trophy. This created an excellent atmosphere just before our students started their competition.

It was great to see so many students participating for their Houses, making it a great competition throughout the day. The competition for the Spirit Trophy was very close between the three Houses, but Zion Crusaders (Blue House) was the overall winner of the Spirit Trophy at the end of the day.

EISM Inter-School Athletics Competition

The EISM Inter-School Athletics Division 3 competition will take place during Week 4 of Term 2 on Tuesday 7 May 2024. More details about this event will be published closer to the date.

Students who won for their age group at the House Athletics (those who are born earlier or later than most of their cohort will be compared to their age group – taken on 1 January this year) will represent Oxley at this event. The fastest 100m runners will be selected for the relay team for their age group.

Unfortunately, there is only discuss for U/14; U/16 and Open at the EISM level. We hope to do well in this competition and strongly encourage students who won their events to focus on training and to attend the Fitness (Running) Group on Thursday afternoons at 3.45pm, meeting on Court 3 in the Stadium. Selected students and their parents will be notified of their participation in the EISM event.
