Year 11 Camp

Kinglake Forest Adventure Camp

Our Year 11 cohort for 2024 were fortunate to spend three days away at Kinglake Forest Adventure Camp early this term. They embarked on group activities where they spent time exploring and developing their individual character strengths, in the beautiful scenic forests of Kinglake. The camp supports students in the mindset of ‘challenge by choice’ where they adapt and grow to tackle challenging situations, necessary for their VCE journey. It was a great time away which I am sure our Year 11’s appreciated.

Student reflections

Year 11 Camp was a wonderful experience in which we were placed in random groups which enabled us to connect with and learn more about different people within our year level. Jye, my camp group leader, created a supportive and understanding connection between my group in which we trusted one another and respected each other’s opinions.

As a group we began each morning with a time of meditation in the beautiful bushland of Kinglake, which allowed us to start the day off on the right foot. At the end of camp, we talked about one thing we wanted to take away with us and almost all of the group wanted to incorporate meditation into our daily lives. Along with learning about the bushland and meditating, we all jumped off a 14-meter platform after a lot of encouragement from each other, and we participated in a game of tug-of-war 9 meters in the air. We also had opportunities to compete against other groups in team building competitions.

Even though the camp was jampacked full of great activities there was plenty of time to hang out with friends at the volleyball court, gaga-ball pit and in the games room. The camp was so much fun, and I wish I could have stayed longer on such beautiful grounds surrounded by such lovely people.

Year 11 Camp was one of the most fun parts of this year so far. It was a great time to bond with new people I hadn't had the chance to know well before. There were many fun and engaging team-building exercises that helped people show everyone where they excelled, whether with leadership skills, bravery, or being able to tie a really good knot. There were activities for all abilities, like high ropes courses, tree climbing, nature walks, and a Wildergaining activity on the last day.

I really enjoyed all the time I got to spend there; it was an incredibly valuable opportunity that none of us will forget in a hurry!
