News from the Chicken Coop

Thank you!

Thanks to the Deacon and Plant families for looking after our gorgeous feathered friends over the last couple of weekends. We heard you got lots of eggs, yum!

Chicken Duty Roster

Thank you to all the wonderful families who have volunteered to do chicken duty throughout the Easter school holidays. The only dates we have left to fill on the roster are 5 days between 8-12 April. You only need to pop up to visit the chickens once a day, so if you would like to do 2 or 3 days of looking after our gorgeous chickens please email Mel asap at mkerwin@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au with your preferred dates.

Egg Lotto

Tickets are available to buy at any time, just bring your money into school and the Environment Leaders will help you out. We usually sell tickets in front of the school on Wednesday afternoons from 3:10-3:20pm, selling tickets to students, parents, grandparents and carers.

All the money we make is put back into buying food and other necessities for our chickens. The next Egg Lotto draw will be Monday 25 March. There will be a few dozen eggs available to win so get your winning $1 raffle ticket soon!

News from the Garden

Each week we sell Egg Lotto tickets and sometimes fresh produce from our garden depending on what’s ready to harvest. There is always fabulous worm juice available (organic liquid fertiliser from our worm farms), just ask for it if it’s not on display.

Please come and visit our little stall on Wednesdays, you never know what we might have to sell along with the egg lotto tickets!

Earth Hour for Schools

Earth Hour for Schools is this Friday 22 March. Our school will be switching off lights, fans, computers and other non-essential electronics for 1 hour between 2:20 and 3:20pm.

“Earth Hour has grown to become much more than switching your lights off, but that iconic switch-off moment is still an important part of Earth Hour. Millions of participants around the world will switch off their lights at 8:30 pm local time on Saturday 23rd March to demonstrate their support of the environment. This action is symbolic and is not an action to save power. We know it will take so much more than an hour of turning our lights out to have a measurable impact on climate change, but the action helps to bring greater awareness to the issue and demonstrates your commitment to help protect the planet – both during and beyond Earth Hour.

The world’s biggest landmarks, like the Empire State Building, London Bridge and Australia’s own Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, switch off each year as a symbolic display of their commitment to the planet.”
