Student activities and event highlights

School Swimming

Senior Swimming Lessons have already been completed for all students in Grades 3-6. The focus on water safety, stroke improvement, and overall aquatic confidence was evident as students embraced the pool with enthusiasm and determination. A huge thank you to the YMCA instructors and staff for their commitment to fostering a positive and secure learning environment.

These lessons also served as a wonderful lead in to our Senior School Swimming Carnival on Friday the 9th of February. The Senior School Swimming Carnival was a spectacular showcase of talent, sportsmanship, and determination. Students, teachers, and parents alike came together to cheer for our incredible swimmers, showcasing their prowess in various swimming events.

Congratulations to all participants for their outstanding efforts, and a special acknowledgment to those who achieved personal bests and took home ribbons for their efforts.

We also extend our gratitude to the parents and guardians who joined us to encourage and celebrate the accomplishments of our young athletes. Your presence contributed significantly to the positive and vibrant atmosphere at the carnival.

District Swimming

On Friday the 16th of February, 30 students from Grades 3-6 attended the Warragul Leisure Centre to represent the Trafalgar Primary School Swimming Team at the 2024 Warragul District Swimming Competition. During what was a wonderful day for swimming, our school team put in a wonderful performance across a variety of individual and relay swimming events.

A number of students collected ribbons for their efforts on the day, including Archie D and Audrey C. These two students now progress to the West Gippsland Divisional Swimming Competition on Monday the 26th of February.

We wish both of these students the very best of luck at this event.

Hockey Roadshow Clinics

This week, students in Grades 3-6 participated in the Hockey Victoria Roadshow Program. This program introduces students to the basics of hockey in a fun and safe game-based environment.

During the clinics, students were introduced to basic equipment and techniques before jumping in and practising their basic skills through fun filled games. With many students’ favourite game being Hoctopus, the hockey equivalent to Octopus.

We look forward to encouraging those students who wish to continue their hockey journey after the Roadshow Program, as we begin to turn our focus towards interschool hockey in Term 2.

Little Athletics Clinics

Our Grade F-2 students recently delved into the world of athletics through the dynamic Little Athletics Program for Schools (LAPS) clinics. These engaging sessions not only taught fundamental movement and athletics skills but created a supportive environment for children of all ability levels. From running and jumping to throwing, the program celebrated the unique strengths of each student, encouraging a positive attitude towards an active lifestyle.

Netball Clinics

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent Netball Clinics for students in Grades 1-2, a fantastic initiative made possible through our collaboration with Mel McIntosh, Sharn Embleto and the Trafalgar Netball Club. These clinics aimed to introduce our young students to the exciting world of netball, fostering a love for the sport while focusing on fundamental skills development in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Mel and the Trafalgar Netball Club for their support in delivering these clinics. Their dedication has played a vital role in making the netball experience accessible and enjoyable for our young athletes.

For students who found joy in the clinics and wish to further explore their newfound skills, we're pleased to announce that the Trafalgar Netball Club is gearing up for the new season. This is a fantastic opportunity for interested students to continue building on their netball experience and join a vibrant community of players. We encourage parents to consider this as an exciting next step for their children.

Gymnastics

We're thrilled to announce that we have once again partnered with Gymnastics Australia and Leongatha Gymnastics Club to deliver the Launchpad Program to all students in Grade F-2 this term. This initiative is dedicated to fostering a love for gymnastics at the grassroots level, introducing children to the sport in a safe and enjoyable environment.

The program focuses on building fundamental movement skills and instilling confidence in our young participants.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Leongatha Gymnastics Club for their invaluable support in delivering the 1st of our 4 lesson sequence this week. Their commitment and collaboration on this program has played a crucial role in making gymnastics accessible and inclusive for our students.

We look forward to updating everyone about how all those somersaults, jumps, and balance skills are developing in the coming weeks.
