Music

Practise makes progress.  It also makes it permanent.  So it is very important that when your children practise they are focussed on their goals from their previous lessons.

Some key beginner tips:

  1. No puffer fish.  Cheeks should not fill up with air when blowing into any instrument. A mirror can help with this.
  1. All instruments come up to students’ mouths - don’t lower or tilt your head and mouth to your instrument; this will cut off airflow.
  2. Flute keys should remain parallel to the ground - don’t roll your instrument back.
  3. No ‘chicken wing’ arms for any instrument.
  4. Pianists should not ‘crack any eggs’ - keep hands rounded.
  5. EVERY student needs to GLUE their eyes to their music as they play.  This is where everyone can access cognitive gains for their brains.
