Dear Parents, Carers, Students and Community,
We are now half-way through Term 1 and have much to celebrate, as well as so much more to look forward to. Our Preschool and Kinder students have settled in so well to our school and their new routines, and we continue to support and expect our students to be safe, respectful and responsible learners.
This Wednesday, as part of our school assembly, we inducted our school leaders, sports captains and student representative council. Congratulations to all our school leaders for being willing to take on this responsibility and lead by example. Thank you to all the family members who were able to join us for this assembly.
NAPLAN will take place from Wednesday 13 March to Monday 25 March in 2024 for all students in Year 3 and Year 5.
Your child's teacher is getting students ready for NAPLAN and will provide appropriate support and guidance. Students will become familiar with the types of questions in the tests and the online testing platform that we use.
Students are not expected to study for NAPLAN and do not need excessive preparation or the use of services by coaching providers. If you would like to know more about the NAPLAN online platform you can go to the public demonstration site and do some practice tests and past NAPLAN papers are also available online.
The best support you can provide your child is ensuring they arrive at school on time, have had a good night’s sleep and healthy breakfast. If your child expresses any concerns for these upcoming assessments, please assure them they are just one small part of their school day and only one way we assess their skills. If needed, don’t hesitate to speak with your child’s teacher so we can offer further support and reassurance.
Almost all correspondence from our school will now be shared using School Bytes. This includes many permission notes, newsletters, invitations for events and reminders. If you need support in accessing School Bytes, please speak with one of our office staff. They are keen to help.
All students are expected to wear a school hat and are asked to keep their personal hat at home for after school or weekend wear. This ensures their favourite hat doesn’t get lost or go missing and supports students to be in full school uniform, without judgment or pressure from peers. If students do not have a school hat, they can be purchased from the school office.
Next week FREE dental checks through Illawarra and Shoalhaven Local Health District will begin.
If you have not completed the permission notes, it’s not too late. If your child sees a dentist regularly, they can still be part of this program. Additional dental check-ups and reminders to children to care for their teeth will never be wasted.
If your child is apprehensive about seeing a dentist, parents are able to indicate if they would like to be there for the check-up, however the dental team specialise in seeing children only and your child can attend with a friend or be supported by staff.
If you have any questions or need support with the forms, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.
Kind regards
